Anytime your hamster's poop becomes wet and gooey, it is time to visit the Vet as soon as possible. Make sure that the poop is really "poop" though. I have never observed whitish diarhea but if it is coming from the opening closest to your hamsters tail then it is poop.
Hamsters that have visible diarhea can die in as little a 24 hours if they don't receive treatment from a Vet. Find a vet that has experience treating hamsters. After an examination the vet will be able to determine the problem and give appropriate medicine.

Are you sure it was not just him weeing? Hamster wee is not like human wee. It is thick and white and sort of milky. Hamsters have very good kidneys which concentrate the urine as they need to save fluid, coming from dry regions.
If you hammy happened to be a female you sometimes see a sticky white discharge around the vent at certain times in the cycle.
If he seems ill and there is diahoerrea sticking round his rear, and it is usually brownish, then you must take him to the vet.

The first time I saw a hamster wee (my friend's ham, Tinsel, who we looked after before Christmas) I thought there was something very wrong with him. It was only when I checked on the internet I realised it was normal. Fingers crossed for Theodor.

You don't have to apologize! It's better to ask than not ask and your hamster suffer. We are all here to try to help each other.

I agree with the others, better safe then sorry. But do keep an eye on the little one to make sure everything is okay. Id say if your hams is acting more or less normal and is eating and drinking then all is fine

Hehe, I made the same mistake when I saw my hamster's pee for the first time. I was like "Something must be wrong! His pee is MILKY!! AHHH!!" and went immediately to the lj community I am part of and asked if he was alright!
