Well I'm awake now and have had a marvellous sleep.

It was quite an adventure and in one way I'm glad it happened as I learned a lot from it and at least I'll know what to do if it happens again.

I use the roof opening rather than remove the lid entirely. As for those two side clips well they're neither use nor ornament as they don't snap in place properly so the lid is always a bit loose. I'd prefer it if they worked to be honest but given Souffle's advice not to use them I didn't bring it to the attention of the seller. Knowing me I'm not doing it properly so will get Alan to check it during his visit this week.

I'm still using a padlock, that's for my peace of mind to deal with the possibility that either of us left the cage clasp undone and I'll use the peg too as an added precautionary measure.

One big big lesson learned.

I knew I had to find Hammy before daylight dawned otherwise it would have been even more of an arduous task.

Right now Hammy is fast asleep right on top of his food stash so I'll dispose of the remains of the fresh food this evening during playtime and I'll reduce his intake of fresh food to the fingernail quantity. He did get more than usual last night but that was a one-off.

Aidan has been working on his Valentine entry this morning so that will be posted up later. I'm not sure when the deadline is but if we've missed it it doesn't matter.

Happy days!

So glad you found Hammy!!! We lost Macy once and ended up catching her 12 hours later...but what an agonizing 12 hours that was for us!! We placed "traps" and cabbage all over the house. I slept on the sofa that night and caught her out of the corner of my eye nibbling on cabbage and scurrying across the living room around 3 am!! Based on where I found her and the trail of droppings, we decided she must had been snoozing somewhere inside the piano all day ! I know this must have been an awful experience and am so glad for your very happy ending

I suspect you are not fitting the clips correctly Jill. There is a knack to it! Put the lid on top of the tray then put the two prongs on the clip into the two slots on the clear lid part. Push them well down. Next push in the middle of the plastic bit that hangs down hard and the bottom U shaped bit will click over the bottom lip of the tray. You need to push quite firmly! To take it off push in and unhook from the bottom. Hope this helps. It took us a while to work it out!

Souffle you are indeed correct to suspect that I am not fitting the clips correctly as I'm hopeless at stuff like that although I have been using a precedure rather like the one you suggest but I'll have gone wrong somewhere so I'll have another bash at it tonight and hopefully I'll master the technique.

I find those exercise balls quite difficult to assemble too but I've got the hang of it now so there will be no possibility of escape by that route!

Tried your method last night and the left clip snaps in place no bother but the right clip is having none of it so I'll get Alan to have a go this week and see if he can fettle it.
