Hi everyone!

I recently bought two Russian dwarves (both girls) and I love them to pieces! I have only had them a week but Hannah (the bossy one) has started to pull the bedding out from her house and sleep under her water bottle. Sophie has started to sleep there too now as she does whatever Hannah does.

I don't know what's wrong. I was worried that they were thirsty or something but I keep testing the water bottle and it seems fine. I put in some juicy cucumber for them to make sure they were hydrated and they both went straight for it but, as they both love cucumber anyway, I am not sure this is a fair test.

Can anyone think of a reason why Hannah wants to sleep there? Obviously I have the same concerns as the others on this thread that it is damp. Also thank you for the tips on here. I will try moving the water bottle and see if it is the bottle that is attractive or just that particular spot in the enclosure.

That's one of my cage rules: no sleeping under water bottle! Put a fan on near that spot so there's a constant draught. Hammies loath draughts and hel move, especially if you have moved his nest to another non draughty area of the cage. Just don't put the fan on high speed. Mine used to chew the metal water bottle spouts...I used to go through three every week. Then he just stopped.

I moved their bottle and it seems to have worked. Only Hannah is sleeping in the new nest now. Sophie has moved back to her house. I hope Hannah is OK. She's very bitey at the moment (towards me - not her sister) but my hamster book says that it takes a while before they settle in (I have only had them a week).

when i find mine sleeping places i don`t like i found that if when you change their cage bedding if u put it in the little house or whatever you use for them to sleep in and you get extra soft stuff they usually will just move in there once you put them back in their cage.
