Default Please send photos of your hammy!

Hi Everyone!

I am still looking for photos of the following Syrian hamsters:

Cinnamon
Dark Grey
Light Grey
Silver Grey
Yellow
Rust

Satin in any color
Dominant spot in any color

If you are uncertain of the color, send me a photo and I may be able to figure it out for you.

Also, if you know the color of your hamster for sure, send me a photo too because I would also like photos of hamsters with several gene combination colors.

I would like to use these photos in an article for this website. I will gladly give you credit for your photos. You would be helping me out very much.

Thanks a bunch!

Hamstermama

Hi Christine, I have a grey hamster but the problem is that I'm not sure if he's Dark, Light or Silver! He's a pet shop hamster so I have no idea of his genetic make up but here's a couple of (not very clear) pictures of him:

If he's any good for what you want I'll be happy to try and get some clearer pictures for you. I (and he!) won't be offended if he isn't what you are looking for

This last photo is a beautiful clear shot of his head! I would love you to take one of his whole body, maybe from the side. I know it's a challenge if he runs around a lot! I don't have much experience with the three grey colours. I have only seen photos but if you can send me a clear one of his markings we can probably figure it out by comparing photos of these genes.

What a pretty hamster you have!

I would really like to use as many photos of hamsters from members of Hamster Central as I can. That way, the article will really be a "Hamster Central" article.

Thanks very much

Do you have cinnamons with agouti markings? I have lots of cinnamons but they all carry Black and I think that it removes the agouti markings in them. So if I used photos of my own cinnamons, they wouldn't really look like true cinnamon.

Some good photos of a short haired Satin in any color would be great! I have some photos of long haired satins but I don't think you can really see the beauty of the Satin gene in long haired as well as you can in short haired hamsters.

If you have any photos of other gene mixes, I would like to see them too. I am finishing up the article on the basic genes but I would also like photos for a follow up article that explains how the basic gene colors look when they are mixed together.

Thanks SO MUCH!

Ooh, all these compliments are going to Mocha's head

I'll try and get some clear shots when he's out - tomorrow morning (he's a morning hamster) if I can manage it time-wise.

Unfortunately we had a very frustrating (and ultimately fruitless) non-photo session this morning with Mocha. He's pretty active first thing in the morning and wouldn't keep still for even a couple of seconds - plus the light was all wrong (approx 7am).

Does anyone have any tips for getting good hamster pictures - it seems impossibly difficult to me?

It's cage cleaning day tomorrow so I'll probably have to disturb him when he's feeling less lively so I'll try again then.

I find it works pretty well when you place them on an open flat surface near a light. But before you put your ham down, make a small pile of yummy treats. Get your camera all set and ready to flash, then let you ham wonder over to it. When your ham pauses to sniff it or stuff it in his cheeks snap some shots of really fast. You could try this technique with different kinds of small treats each time.

Good tips Snuggleham. Be sure to put your camera on close up or 'flower' setting before you start. Choose a spot and do a test shot of a still object to get the focus right. Put the hamster in an enclosed area. Make it with cushions or something or if you have an assistant put them on a shelf or ledge where they usually sniff around slowly at first. If you do this someone must be on hand to stop them jumping. We put them on an enclosed book shelf or ornament shelf that is open only at the front. The best shots are when you first put them on when they are a bit puzzled We use standard flash on close up setting and it works well. Take loads and loads and one is always a good one
