The Choice - A Christmas story
The Choice
Ruby had a choice to make. It was the beginning of December and the Christmas letters had to be written and special Christmas wishes thought about.
Ruby and her parents had discussed her most special wish. Ruby wanted a pet but was she ready? She was 8 years old and she had always wanted a little hamster to call her own. Her parents had explained that Santa would not be able to bring a real pet on his sleigh and anyway it would be unfair to have a new little family member when there was all the hustle and bustle of Christmas going on. He might be frightened.
Then there was the other problem. If Ruby had a hamster she would not get any presents at Christmas because a hamster would have to arrive early so it could settle in. Ruby had been to town with her mum and dad and they had walked excitedly around the toy store. It was there that Ruby saw the Zhu-zhu hamsters. They were fluffy and coloured and oh the wonderful houses and play sets, that glittered and sparkled and all the fun she could have with them. Ruby just couldn’t decide. The Zhu-zhu hamsters would be so easy to care for and she wouldn’t need to clean them or feed them and they wouldn’t require much attention from her.
A few weeks before the big day Ruby and her family went to visit someone special. The lady took them into a big room and brought out a large tank. In the tank were a litter of baby hamsters. The babies clamoured up the edges and the lady allowed Ruby to hold the babies and play with them.
Her mum asked her what she thought. Ruby started to cry. It was all too hard. Was she ready to take reasonability for this tiny life? Dad gathered her up and said ‘let’s go home and think about it shall we?’
It was then that she saw him. In the corner of the tank a tiny nose snuffled out of the pile of bedding. Black as coal their eyes met and the bond was forged.
Who is that she said? ‘Oh he is the runt of the litter Ruby’ said the lady. ‘I don’t think you would want him. He’s very small’
Ruby moved to the tank and he toddled out. She touched him and he walked slowly onto her hand.
The choice was made. Zulu came home that night.
On Christmas Eve Ruby hung up her stocking. The note in the toe said ‘I don’t want anything as I already have the best present ever Santa but if you had a hamster treat in your bag Zulu would love that’
In the morning the stocking contained two gifts – a nibble stick and a coal black Zhu-zhu hamster.
I know some of you have read this in the journal but thought I'd post it anyway

Re: The Choice - A Christmas story
It's a toy for kids (been out for around a year) that kinda mimicks a hamster, it's electronic and comes with all sorts of accessories.
