Sand bath....
I've just added a sand bath to pippa's cage and wasn't expecting her to take much of an interest. I've heard that sometimes they use them as a loo or don't understand what they are for but she LOVES it. She's been in and out of it all evening. She digs one side then turns and digs the other side then fluffs herself up and has a little wash and the repeats it all again. It's so cute and im pleased she likes it. Do your hamsters do the same in their sand baths. I just had to share because I was so surprised she liked it.

Re: Sand bath....
Oh yes, Noodles wiggles around on her back with her little legs up in the air! She likes to just sit in it and indeed poo in it! Haha! I only let her in it 3-4 times a week for a max of 10-15 mins though. Too much I heard isn't that good for them, but I am not sure about this!

Re: Sand bath....
Yes, my hamster does the same, but he is not so excited anymore haha. I just leave it in his cage so he can do it whenever he wants to.

Re: Sand bath....
My hamsters have so far all loved their sand baths to bits. As long as you make sure it's chinchilla sand and not bird sand, you should give your hamster access all the time. It's not only good for them, it's necessary - they need it for fur and skin care
Bird sand has small bits of shell in it that can cause skin abrasions, which is why it should never be used for furry animals.

Re: Sand bath....
Most pet shops or online shops should have chinchilla sand for sale - that's suitable for hamsters as well. Since the needs are the same, there is no special hamster sand or something, so chinchilla sand is fine.
Like this for example:

Re: Sand bath....
Heres Peanut in his sand tub, he would rather lick the sides than roll in the sand... I think most syrians don't bother with sand as much as other breeds.

Re: Sand bath....
Aw very cute. I suppose the novelty will wear off sooner or later though. I'm not sure if pippas sand bath is big enough for her to roll in so I might upgrade it to a bigger size when I get my gabber Rex. XxX

Re: Sand bath....
I've got 12 litre (about 2.6 gal. I think) mini-tanks for sand baths, and all of our hamster have loved them so far. We've one in each cage and I'd never go without it.
