3 escapes 1 bad mating
My cages are ex viv's with sliding doors and last night I had three escapee's!!! 2 Males and one female.
I'd cleaned all my hammies out and was interupted so asked one of my boys to put the perspex doors back on the males and quickly clean out the females for me.
But the doors where put on the wrong way with the vent holes at the bottom and Boss my Golden Satin must have got his teeth in the holes and lifted the door off. I found that one the floor and both males gone as the other door had slid open easily. My old Longhaired Sable boy was my concern as he is almost three years old and such a dithery old thing I was instantly worried he would be hurt or get hurt!
But then I noticed that one of the females had slid her door open too.... Also a satin, a cream satin.
Satin and Boss were down by the television mating!!! Two Satin's! Now if she were a dog, I could have whipped her to the vet tomorrow. But sadly there is nothing I can do now but wait and hope she did not take.
Really did not want another mating as I'd already got two planned matings... but this one is a disaster!!!
Needless to say, doors are on the right way tonight and locked!

Old Hammie as in his old haunt, in the fish tank stand. I think he heads there as it's next to the fire (I have an parkray solid fuel fire) so on during the night and remains nice and warm. He alway used to had there when he was younger so he was in the first place I looked. But having two males out together alone was a magor worry. What if they had fought over Satin...?
What if Boss had really hurt Hammie... Alsort's were running through my head. But I looked at him all over and lucky, no marks, so he went back home and snuggled down to sleep after a little drink.

I wish I could, but my livingroom and diningroom is a thru room some 24ft long which I have a curtain dividing the two... so sadly this is the only room they can be in

It will be alright! don't be too worried. It isn't a deadly combination so there is really nothing to panic about. Just make sure to place them in all pet homes. Good luck!

Re: 3 escapes 1 bad mating
I'm glad you found them, but I hope the female doesn't get pregnant. I think if they are double satin you get hairless babies which is not ideal but not too deadly. Good luck x

Double satin aren't hairless, but have rather thin, sparse fur. I have been told that the coat will improve after their first moult, so extra care isn't as serious as the hairless when it comes to making accomodations to stop them getting too cold/cut etc.

Statistically, 1/4 of the pups will be double satin.
