you cant really blame a 10/11 year old child going for a small cage with funky colours. some children in that age are more mature but i am not sure what i would have picked in her place
it should be the parents job to tell their children what is suitable and what not but a lot of parents actually dont really care. or, what i have heared before as well, parents pick small cages on purpose so that the children can handle them on their own
even if you had told the girl about what is suitable for a hamster and what not she wouldnt have listened anyway and her dad would have ended up being angry with you. i would have done the same as you
