Exclamation allergy-help

hi folks...i have got a problem. i think my partner is allergic to my hammies. it suddenly started in spring time and we thought it was just hay fever...but he still has problems. unfortunately its not only ichy eyes and runny nose...he gets serious breathing problems when he is in my flat. we have tried moving the hammies out of the room where he is but it doesnt work anymore...with my 4 hamsters and my flatmates one hamster there a probably just too many allergenes in the flat

at the moment he is staying away from my flat coz anti-histamines dont work anymore either and he is still waiting for an appointment for allergy testing...he has been waiting for 6 weeks now and still no appointment

just wanted to ask if somebody on this forum had a similar problem and how they managed...i really dont want to give my hammies away....but of course i dont want to get rid off my partner either...

i used to use wood shavings but swapped to megazorb a while ago...i dont really think its the bedding coz magezorb is just paper and if he was allergic to dust he would have died of an allergic shock in his own flat a while ago....if you know what i mean

please help...looking forward to any advice really!!!

aww what a shame i used to be really allergic to cats and i hatedthem because of that but then my grandma got a cat to my disappointment but i go there fairly often and its really wearing off - its not hamster based - but maybe if he lived with a hamster for a bit..i dont know if its a bad idea and would mke it worse than ever though...

I think living with a hamster would make it worse...
I wouldnt make any changes with the hamsters (or partner haha) until he goes to the doctor. It can be something different really, not hamsters. Lets hope its not them and good luck till he gets to the doc!

you can de-sensitize but also sensitize when you are living with the allergenes. i am supposed to be allergic to cats but had cats all my life. but unfortunately it looks like its getting worse and if breathing problems are involved i wouldnt even want to try de-sensitizing.

i wont do anything before he gets his allergy test and maybe an asthma spray or something...but i have to think about it to be prepared

i think my worst problem is the idea of giving my lovely hammies away and then the relationship not working out anyway...i would never forgive myself for that pets would never disappoint you....humans do...

if it does turn out to be hammys, i am sure one of your friends or even someone on HC will look after them, and if your relationship doesn't work out, they could give them back to there real mummy

Annie - they could be fostered if need be and returned to you if any situation changed. I hope that your partner can get the allergy sorted another way though and that its not hamster related.
