Hamsters talking to each other?

Last night i witness a very funny but strange thing, Mr Ham lets to chat and makes his little squeaking sounds all the time.
Well he was happly sat in his litter tray eating his food squeaking away when Nibbles started to make the same sound back to him and this went on for a few mins.
I wondered if it was because Nibbles was in heat but shes not showing any signs and her cage is on the other side of the room.

Is this normal for another hamster to answer ones squeaks? as Nibbles has never made this sound.

Awww, I bet that sounded really sweet! I love hammy chattering!

The only time I've noticed it really is when I give mine Rollinis and Alice runs round the cage in excitement, squeaking while she tries to find a hiding place for her new stash! Also if two of them are in heat at the same time, one will squeak and the other answers from across the room with a huff

I don't think I've ever heard my Jasper chatter. Is that normal?

Yes it is normal and they are calling to each other. They also make other pitched sounds that you likey do not hear. Females call quite loudly when in season!

oh u have a hamster named nibbles too, huh? great name well! ....i had nibbles in his aquarium and taffy in hers side by side...when she went into labor...she was under her water bottle...nibbles decided to not sleep in his igloo and spent te entire night under his water bottle (in the same corner but in his cage!) and basically laid there and watched/chattered...i think they do
