My first hamster was when I was about 8 years old. He was a golden boy called Bobby and I loved him to bits, I did all the looking after him and cleaning him out I remember he used to fall asleep on me (which none of my other hamsters have ever done!)

I think we got him from a breeder (a friend of a friend), as I remember going round to someones house to pick him out. I had 2 more syran hamsters after him then I was told I wasn't allowed any more, so as soon as I moved out I started to keep hammy's again

Here's me and Bobby

my first hamsters were 2 robos when I was about 10, one was a little sweetie who loves cuddles called sammy, unfortunately he died after only a few months, he lost most of his fur and got really weak (he was a P@H ham :/) and the other was called speedy and he was really nippy... couldn't really handle him without gloves as he would draw blood every time and was just untameable, but still loved them both

My first was a golden colored syrian named Wibbles. Somebody dropped him off at the vet hospital where I worked, and he was going to be euthanized because he had a tumor on his chest. I took him in and cared for him, he had a happy 4 months with me before he passed away. I loved him so much that I decided to adopt another hamster about 3 months after he passed away!

My first hamster was a long haired sable syrian named Dash. I planned for a couple of months and I thought I had been well researched too though I was full of outdated information. I learned a lot with Dash and by them time he was an old hammy he was living a pretty great life. I was so excited to get a hamster too.

I hardly remember my proper 'first' hamster, as i was only like 7 years old!

Beautiful dark grey female syrian called Badger (cause she looked exactly like one)
About the only thing i do remmebr was that she was a complete escape artist but normally if i walked around the room with a grape in one hand a nd a biscuit in the other she'd soon appear
A kind of impulse buy, we saw her in a pet shop and fell in love but my mum said no, turns out she secretly fell in love too and went back later and got her

But the hamsters i count as MY first hamsters as i cared for them completely myself.
Were Peggy and Dot the robo pair, Peggy of which still being with me
They were impulse buys as most my pets always are!

My first hamster was called Chester, she was a Golden syrian and I had her when I was at secondary school. She was my hamster, I looked after her and paid for her, although I'm sure my mam must have bought her cage etc.

She was a funny thing, would do handstands and pee out of her cage so I had to wrap newspaper round the corners cos the wallpaper got stained well would you pee in your house

I used to let her out and we had a West Highland White terrier (Polly) who was mesmerised by her, i would plop her on Polly's back and they would quite happily toddle around the house together haha.

Sadly, I think she got her leg trapped in one of the bars of her cage and she passed away after a trip to the vets, I'm sure she was more than 3 years old.

My first hamster was a long-haired Syrian called Snert (my sister named him after the dog in a cartoon strip called Hagar the Horrible). I was about 14 and my sister was 10. We did everything wrong - cage was too small, fluffy bedding, bathing him in water - but somehow he managed to live for nearly 2 years.

In our defence, this was about 30 years ago and the internet hadn't been invented, so the only place to go for advice was the local library, which wasn't overly blessed with books about hamsters. This time round with Toffee, I've researched everything thoroughly and I hope he is living a much happier life than poor old Snert. He seems contented anyway.
