Default pet shops

Can anyone recommend any good petshops? I am having no luck with finding breeders or animals needing new homes

I guess no one is very keen on petshops! I did see an add in the paper for baby hamsters but I phoned on the first day that the advert was in the paper early that morning and apparently they were all sold already so what was the point putting in the add! apart from that I can't find any more hamsters

It`s very frustrating when you want to rehome more animals, yet can`t scource them locally. Look on ad trader (just google ad trader and the page should come up!)

There may be a Northern Irelend equivellant, but I`m not sure. Online free-ads are usually chock a block with animals looking for homes sadly. If I see anything, I`ll contact you!
Don`t give up. x

Edited: I googled `hamster breeders in northern ireland` and came up with a fair few breeders and clubs!

http://www.angelfire.com/biz/RadioHams/

They are based in Lisburn, south of Belfast N.Ireland

Also, you could try the Northern Ireland Hamster Club for contacts?

Also, you could ask babyboos (member on here!) if she is travelling to Northern Ireland this year?

You could also try your own animal welfare organisation?

I've tried all these people and I must have tried everyone on the net and all the papers. I managed to get four male rats from adverts in the papers, 2 have worms, one is a bit paralysed on his back legs, one has a really nasty abcess and the other 2 have mites and lice. It's getting really hard to find healthy animals and I think I might just give up trying to find hamsters!

What a pity you are having such problems when you have a good home on offer for a hammy. They must be in short supply over there. Are you ever over in England? If you are get in touch and I will try and get you a baby from a breeder here. I know a few in the Manchester/yorkshire area who usually have babies available. Pets@Home usually stock them if you had one of those near and I have had some friendly good animals from there who just need more time to tame than those from a breeder.

It`s sometimes a good idea to get a diagram of both sexes to take along to pet shops if you have to buy from there. Many times I`ve heard of people buying a male when it turned out to be a female!

Pets At Home are NOT training their staff well enough if they are selling animals they believe to be one sex, when infact it`s the other. You don`t expect to buy a small pet, take it or them home and end up with eepers running around 21 days leter!

My family bought her for me so I only realised when they gave her to me that she wasnt a male. I think she could be quite far gone in the pregnancy already. At least she wont have to have her babies there

Well it looks like you are doing a good job in rescuing the animals from there The thing is if you really want a hamster and that is the only place you can get one then I would go there. I can only speak from experience of the two I have had hammies from in Yorkshire but they have both been lovely animals. Also I know Little Miss dwarf Hamster who is sometimes on this forum works in one and she is an excellent breeder and very experienced so that shop benefits from her expert knowledge. I think that it is not really always the shop who is at fault sometimes but the supplier who should not be sending out mixed sex groups and pregnant animals. The animals always seem in good cages/conditions in our area and I know not all pet shops provide this. Small rodents are often very hard to sex and staff do need training in your region it would seem. Perhaps best to check for yourself if you can before buying!
