Bah! *cringes at the last picture* they are all lovely pictures hammiesarelovex3 but please don’t allow your cat to get so close to your hamster. Even if you are watching, you should never underestimate the swiftness of a cat. Cats are predators. The simplest thing like a small scratch could turn into something awful.

Please don’t entourage your cat to be interested in Carmelo. Because if you’re not around one day and Carmelo escapes you can't be sure your cat will avoid him. Also you don’t want to encourage it into thinking it can stare in at the poor hamster while it's in its cage. Who knows what could happen!

Still a beautiful cat by the way

Don't worry, my cat is declawed in the front, and she couldn't care less about the hamster...she is actually kind of afraid of him! I supervise when I have Carmelo out and she is around...Trust me, I am very protective of him around the cat, when that picture was taken (not by me!) I was very wary and I wanted him away from the cat...my parents were like telling me to calm down, but I couldn't take it...

Carmelo is very beautiful. I would actually say he is a 'dark golden'. This is not really a very common colour in the UK. We have two cats, one of which is just not interested in the hams. I don't think she knows what prey is as she has never caught anything except a dead frog and she is nealy 15! The other is a different kettle of fish and has to be watched constantly as he would have a hamwich any day. Out hams are kept in a locked room but when we are seeing to them he tries to sneak in!

Great pictures
Our cat loves watching the hamsters and I once caught her sleeping in a duna with hamsters all over her back - she had shavings all through her fur and it was a right mess. How the lid got opened in the first place remains a mystery, or even how she got in the hamstery bedroom. We keep the door closed with a sliding bolt now when we are not in the room. She loves shavings and always tries to get into the sacks of Megazorb, and on Sunday when we do the majority of our enclosure cleanouts we have to keep her away from the bin bags or she would be in amongst all the dirty litter....
We are lucky I think in that we got her as a tiny kitten and always brought her up to see the hamsters as equals and non-food. She is an indoor only cat so hasn't ever been hunting and always has plenty of food and water available in her bowl.
When a hamster escapes she comes to tell us and also shows us where they are hiding. She gets very aggitated when we don't follow her when she comes to tell us something is amiss. I have seen her once pick a hamster up in her mouth and bring it to my partner with no marks on the hamster apart from cat spit, when he didn't go with her to find out what she was mewing about. The Roborovski in question quickly shot under the sofa, but was soon recovered.
Despite all this I would never knowingly leave her in a room with a loose hamster, she may damage one unintentionally.

Same here! My cat is indoor and she's just lazy...she is about 7 years old (gonna be 8!) and this is her first hammie...but she just gets jealous with the hammie getting lots of attention, but she's cool and I swear she has a radar when I have the hammie out!! She only sniffs him and back away because she just doesn't care!
