Homemade mix
Hi guys!
I知 looking into making my own food mix for a future dwarf hamster, my question is how do you know what percentage of each ingredient to use in the mix? How do you calculate it all? I知 not very good at maths but I really want to learn, what sites are good to look at as I can稚 find any. Any other advise?
Many thanks Jemma x

Re: Homemade mix
I would actually recommend not doing this at all. It's very difficult to have a truly balanced diet 100% homemade, which can lead to serious deficiencies and major health issues over time.
Your best and safest bet is a high quality premade food. In the UK & Europe, Rodipet make excellent foods, but potential options will vary depending on where in the world you are!
If you want to make a homemade treat mix however with high quality whole food ingredients that would be much better and it wouldn't cause dietary imbalances if fed in proper treat portions. At that point you'd look for safe ingredients not found in the main diet for maximum variety and more nutritional benefits - flax seed/linseed for example is a great add in with multiple health benefits that I personally think should be given to any hamster.

Re: Homemade mix
Hey. I wanted to make my own mix too but honestly its confusing :S
What I do now is i use the a store bought mix and add stuff to it like chia seeds, flax seeds, every time I feed him.
I always refer to a nutrition table I found on another forum, it tells me how often and how much to feed my hamster.
I feed my hamster his mix once every 3 days, I give him mealworms the day before he gets his mix. And I try to give him fresh fruit/veg/egg most days.
I can send you a link to the table I use via pm. Its posted on another forum and I'm not sure if i can share it here.
