Default Rose petals and apple leaves

I've tried searching for the answers to my questions for a long time so I'm sorry if they have already been answered and I've just missed them...

I know that hamsters can eat rose petals but does the variety of the rose matter at all or can they have any? Also, can they eat them fresh or do they need to be dehydrated first?

Similarly with apple leaves - does the variety matter and can they eat them fresh or do they need drying first?

Also, just a side question just to save having to make a separate thread - is there any way to encourage hamsters to chew Whimzees? Most peoples' hamsters seem to go crazy for them, but all mine have just seemed uninterested. I've tried various shapes and sizes but all they ever get is a mere nibble. I've tried smearing a little peanut butter and rubbing a yogurt drop on them but nothing. None of my boys have shown much interest in millet either.

Hello

Simple answer to the whimzees... if your hammies aren't bothered... then don't keep buying them! They arent essential in a hammy diet and there are plenty alternatives to keep teeth down. Same for the millet. Like humans, hammies have personal tastes so if yours aren't keen, no worry!

I know many people like to give dried flowers and herbs, if in doubt, again, don't bother. I am personally unsure as mine never went in for dried herbage much but other members may be able to help

Are the rises & apple leaves from your garden? If you can be absolutely sure they haven't had any chemical sprays on or near them then thay're fine & no need to dry them, I would only give a tiny bit of the rose & see how your ham reacts as the scent can be very strong for them.
Not all hams like whimzees & chews aren't necessary so I'd just give up on those.

I read somewhere that hamsters shouldn't have lettuce, because they can't discharge it from their cheek pouches. Wouldn't rose petals be similar in texture?

I hear some strange things about lettuce & hams but it’s actually fine for them in moderation just like any other leafy veg (with the exception of iceberg lettuce) so it wouldn’t be a pouch problem.

I've never given my lot lettuce because i read that one type isn't good for them but can never remember which one. So, what kind of lettuce can i feed them?

Iceberg isn't good for them as it's mostly water.

They can have romaine or little gem lettuce.

Yes, we have multiple rose bushes and apple trees in our garden. I've tried dried rose petals in treat mixes before, but I would love to be able to use what we have freely available but I was worried that maybe they could only eat certain varieties.

I'll be sure to try my boy on a little fresh petal to see what he thinks.
