Default Timothy Hay for Syrian

Is Burgess Excel Long Stem Small Animal Feeding Hay (100% Timothy Hay) safe for Syrian Hamsters? It gets very good reviews compared to some others but it just says for rabbits of the label.

Thanks!

Hamsters don't need hay like some other animals but it can be used with some precautions, they may nibble a little & it can be mixed into substrate for holding burrows too.
Before use it needs to be frozen to get rid of any mites or bugs that could become a problem then you need to go through it & remove any sharp spiky bits that could damage pouches.

My hamsters quite like hay and my Syrian has a hay basket he likes to sit in. I use Timothy ReadiGrass rather than hay because it is not so coarse.

Thanks, i see Pets At Home sell it so it's ideal! Is it safe if hamsters choose to eat some? Does this need to be frozen too and if so, how long for? Thanks!

I'm very sorry again you lost your little Percy.

My hamsters nibble on the grass and i do pick the stubby bits out but have never frozen anything. I suppose its wise to do so and i would have thought that the same applies for hay and grass.

Thank you for your kind thoughts on Percy. The household seems incomplete without this little guy.
