Is the Kaytee Forti-Diet mixed with mealworms ok for hamsters?
I have a 10- month old Robo hamster named Cove whose diet is the Kaytee Forti-Diet mixed in with mealworms. I feel like I'm posting a lot but anyway just wondering if that is okay since people say that kaytee foods are bad because they give them a mostly seed-based diet or something like that? Just in case, though, I decided to add in mealworms. Is there any good seed mix that is available in the US? I don't want to get it shipped since i don't want to risk any germs getting in the food. Here is a photo of the current food (it's a little blurry since I had a closer photo of it, but it wouldn't upload for some reason so I had to crop up an image).

Re: Is the Kaytee Forti-Diet mixed with mealworms ok for hamsters?
Do you mean the Kaytee Forti-Diet Pro Health Mouse, Rat, and Hamster Food? I just googled it & that one has 20% protein which is plenty for a young ham & a bit high for an older one.
I can't see much from your photos, it would help if you resized them to make them smaller.
There a thread here that explains how to upload photo to the forum so you don't have to rely on photobucket & their rather large logo!!

Kaytee foods are very low quality. They might have very high protein, but they're really not worth it.
A proper diet in the US that is actually high quality would be Higgins Vita Garden(not Sunburst which has tons of dried fruit and therefore isn't ideal for any hamster species).

Thank you for the advice, it's mostly corn, sunflower seeds and there are pellets in there but she will not eat them.

Thank you for the suggestion. I will look for the Higgins Vita Garden as soon as I can. I'm just hoping that people aren't raiding from pet stores now
