Default Robo - Should I feed Higgens?

Hello all,

Donut is our 4 month old robo hamster. Since getting him we've been feeding him the Sunburst mix, but I am worried that it does not include enough protein.

I will probably get the Mazuri lab blocks, but I'm not sure how much to give him. Should I break the blocks and feed half a day while cutting back on the Sunburst?

Also, what problems are associated with hamster not getting enough protein?

Thank you!

Getting enough protein is very important especially for a young hamster, it's not hard to add in extra protein though, you can give dried mealworms although they are high in fat so not too many, a couple a day is fine, small amounts of plain cooked or dried chicken (sold as cat treats but make sure it's just plain chicken) a little cooked egg white might be enjoyed too & all mine love plain tofu.

Higgins Vita Garden is the proper diet, not Sunburst(loaded with dried fruit so not ideal for any species regardless of potential for diabetes or none in the case of robos - they just don't tend to naturally eat fruits in the wild).

Mazuri lab blocks are not a good protein supplement. They're not a high quality food either. You're much better off adding a whole food protein boost such as Pure Bites!
