Question Should I change Hamster Mix?

Boris is currently on the hamster muslei from p@h, as that was what he was being fed when I got him, so I just carried it on. He eats most of the mix and doesnt seem to dislike any of it. However, I read somewhere that this mix is high in sugar, so would it be best for me to consider changing to something else? If so what mix would you recommend? And how gradually would I need to do the swapping over process - half and half to begin with or less?? Thanks in advance!

You could try a change and you need to do it over a period of about two weeks. We use Harry Hamster personally and add some supplements. You can get Harry in Wilkinsons. First feed you just add about a teaspoon to the bowl along with the old mix. Eaxh feed add a little more. When you get to about 3/4 Harry being added mix your two bags together and fimish them off that way. If he does not seem to eat the Harry or his condition changes then it may be best to stick to his usual diet especially as he is a little older and you don't want to stress him.

Thanks Souffle, I will try this. If it dosen't work though is there any harm in keeping him on his current mix? Would the high sugar content pose any health risks for him? I would hate for him to get diabeties or something because of the food I am giving him.

I've been thinking the exact same thing actually. Sir Alan has always eaten the P@H hamster muesli and eats all of it apart from the grey chunks occasionally, but the sugar content has got me wondering.....

i'm currently changing porridge from wagg hamster, gerbil, mouse much (i hate it)
but especially cause it would just be plain difficult having too have peggy and him on two different foods. Plus its not availible near me.
So i'm changing him onto harry hamster which i def reccommend but its your choice
I have no experience with pah muesli so i can't comment.

For the change over i started with 1/4 of table spoon just for a taster to see if he would eat it.
then half a table spoon and the same again the 3 rd time.
And now hes on one table spoon hh and 1 table spoon wagg.
will be doing 1 and a half tommorow and 2 the time after that
But porridge is a really good eater anyway and always cleans his bowl even the not so nice bits
