Hi,
Does anyone have a homemade food mix for robo hamsters ratio and ingredient list that I can get the ingredients in UK?

And how frequent and how much each time can i feed my robo hamster treat(s)?

I was using Harry hamster mix as base food mix with fluffymuchkins’ food mix ratio (without pearl barley because haven’t got time to find this yet), but apparently I was told it is not suitable for dwarf hamster, it is like feed a kid with adult food. Would like to get JR dwarf hamster mix but not selling anymore. Burgess was given as alternate suggestion, where can I buy this? Or any other ready food mix suitable for Roborovski is available on uk market? Or homemade food mix will be best choice and easiest to get?

The best food for hamsters in the UK is going to be the Rodipet dwarf junior mix. It's extremely high quality, no artificial flavors or colors(Harry Hamster does have hidden artificial colors which really isn't good, among other issues like having far too large pieces for dwarf species especially robos).

https://www.rodipet.co.uk/pet-foods/...che=1571765377

Unlike anything else you could buy, it's completely organic. There are no pellets, which most hamsters hate and tend to be far too large for tiny robo mouths anyways. There are no artificial dyes(which are known to cause cancer among other health issues), no artificial flavors, and no preservatives at all.

The biggest benefit of all with using Rodipet's dwarf junior mix is that it is truly biologically appropriate for a hamster through the use of appropriate whole foods. No other food on the market has done this. It's also as close as you can get to a homemade whole food based diet without creating a disastrous imbalanced mess that would lead to serious health issues if used long term, plus unlike a homemade diet you won't have to measure out individual components and mix things together and it also happens to save you quite a bit of time and money in comparison.

Thank you for your information! Is it only available on official website?

That is the only source I'm aware of that is definitely allowed to sell it. You may see it on Amazon, but I would stay away from Amazon when it comes to ordering this particular food. Amazon doesn't always have to be an approved source from manufacturers, and that can lead to some very unsafe counterfeit or otherwise questionable products as far as food is concerned. I know it's not the most convenient way to buy food for any pet, but it's better to be safe and not take such a big risk.

I feed my Robo the Rodipet junior because i couldn't find any dwarf hamster food in the shops and followed Amityville's recommendation.
I order two tubs to save on postage and they last a long time because Robos eat so little. The tubs contain a handy little measuring scoop.
I think it may well work out cheaper than sourcing individual ingredients and trying to get the balance right.

Sounds good but seems a little bit pricey.
Just afraid if Yoyo doesn’t like it.
What is the difference between Rodilet dwarf hamster food junior mix and senior mix?

The difference is that the senior is way too low in protein for any hamster, including seniors. Stick with the junior one as that one is actually nutritionally appropriate, while the senior is not.

It's pretty much guaranteed that your hamster will enjoy the Rodipet mix, and it's nowhere near as expensive as if you had to go out and buy completely organic ingredients of the same quality.

Even if you did buy ingredients yourself, they'd cost more and if you didn't use all of an ingredient that particular ingredient would generate waste from your lack of use which is not only bad for your wallet but very bad for the environment. That's not considering how horribly imbalanced a homemade mix could be as mentioned, and just to be clear the results of an improperly balanced diet for any species including hamsters are never something you want to see and unfortunately aren't always reversible.

The Rodipet food seems good. I mix it half and half with Harry Hamster for my Syrian. The difference between the Junior and Senior is mainly the ratio of Protein to Fibre. Over 18 months old it is recommended that hamsters have around 15% protein, and higher Fiber (~12%). This is meant to help prevent Kidney issues, and keep digestion flowing. I found this info here https://www.hamstersociety.sg/hamste...ty-and-quality it may be that different countries recommend different amounts, so do look around and decide for yourself.

Compared to Harry Hamster the Rodipet food is very expensive, so I understand that not everyone will be able to go for this option. If the pieces of Harry Hamster are too big for little Robos I don't know whether breaking them up a bit with a pestle and mortar might help? Again, I'm not an expert, and I haven't had Robos, so do read around and take in the opinions of others too.

I wouldn't bother with the Harry Hamster at all. It's popular, but that doesn't make it a high quality food by any means! It's loaded with pellets which offer no enrichment value unlike whole foods, and it contains artificial dyes(hidden, you have to really dig deep to even find mention of them but they're there). Straight Rodipet is the way to go, even if it is higher cost. Hamsters definitely don't eat a lot, so for someone with just one or two hamsters it's even less costly long term.

To put into perspective just how long 500 grams of food can last when being fed as the only main diet with no other foods being mixed in, the Rodipet serving size gives approximately 90 servings. In other words, that's roughly 3 months of food for a single robo. To break things down even further you have a food that's roughly 0.09 euros per serving, which is far from the crazy expense you might think you're getting into.
