High calorie food?
So I've spoken to my vet today about my elderly hamster and her impacted cheek pouch.
He discussed that due to my 2 year old dwarf hamster weight loss he wouldn't be able to remove it easily.
She's about 35g and you can feel her spine.
He did suggest a high-calorie diet to bulk her up before he did any serious intervention.
She does have her teeth but I'm feeding her more softened food and pureed as she is a slight bit dehydrated. Also, she eats the soft food immediately instead of pouching the food. And some of her regular hamster food.
She's quite happy and is active, runs a little bit on her wheel and rummages around her enclosure.
I'm giving her porridge, smushed banana, boiled veggies as a puree (like baby food) .
Any ideas for high calorie food thou to fatten her up a bit?

Scrambled or boiled egg is quite nutritious or a bit of mashed avocado.

I think rescues use rice pudding when they trying to get hamsters to put weight on. I think there is some sort of 'recovery' formula too. But not sure of the name of it, I am sure someone on here will know.

I'd imagine that would be Oxbow Critical Care. It's a staple for rabbit and guinea pig owners to keep in a first aid kit, but I'm not sure it would be that great for hamsters on a frequent basis as it is extremely high in fiber.
I know Oxbow also make Carnivore Care which is quite a bit lower in fiber but unfortunately that has way more protein and fat than I could ever feel comfortable giving to a hamster as an actual meal replacement.
A 50/50 mix of Carnivore Care and Critical Care:
30.5% protein
17.5% fat
~14.5% max fiber
So clearly even a 50/50 mix of Carnivore Care and Critical Care isn't a very good idea.
A 75% Critical Care/25% Carnivore Care mix:
23.25% protein
10.25% fat
20.25% max fiber
So while the 75/25 mix is an improvement as far as fat goes, it is a bit high in protein and far too high in fiber. Both of these products absolutely have their uses for other pets, but I just don't see any sort of blend between the two as a long term solution(they're not intended for that either).

Re: High calorie food?
I spoke with my vet, it is an abscess but behind her cheek not inside it.
Elaina is on antibiotics and painkillers.
I asked her about the options and her medical opinion of which recovery food is best for the hamster.
We decided on this mix, the carnivore care, peanut butter, carrot, broccoli, potato, hamster seed mix.
She's been eating this well, and seems to have perked up a bit
This is the mix for that specific hamster, it might not be suitable for every hamster
