Growing flax and giving to a hamster.
Hi,
I have been growing flax for Luna and Star.

Now for my daft question of the day! I know hamsters can eat flax seeds and the flax sprays you can buy, I presume it's safe to give them the leafy greens too?
How often would you give a hamster some of the green shoots(presuming it is safe)?
Thanks.

Re: Growing flax and giving to a hamster.
I've just checked a German forum because they use a lot of homegrown over there.
Flax is the same as linseed apparently and is on the list of suitable seedlings for hamsters to eat.
No definite guidance regarding quantity just same as all new foods. Small amounts at first that can be increased gradually.

Re: Growing flax and giving to a hamster.
Aw thanks Ria. I will only give them a little bit. I was probably being stupid asking and being a bit over cautious, but I couldn't find anything about the actual flax plant.. but i guess that is the same as when the whole plant has grown, dried out and i can give them that. ah well, my stupid question of the day

Re: Growing flax and giving to a hamster.
Not a stupid question at all.
There's an extensive list of seedlings, plants and wild plants on this German site and i want to look into it further. I'll try and find out what all this greenery is called in English. Henry loves fresh food and trying new things. Wee Gordon ate his first ever, tiny, dandilion leaf the other morning and a tiny bit of boiled egg the other night.
He approached it ever so carefully as if afraid it might bite but almost jumped into the egg cup once he tasted it.
Henry trusts me with food so its sniff sniff scoff.
