Default Feeding my hamster yogurt while he’s on Baytril?

My hamster is going to be on his 3rd out of 7 day course of Baytril in order to treat his diarrhea. The Baytril was prescribed by my vet. I was wondering if it would be okay to give my hamster some yogurt while he’s on the antibiotic?? Will it mess with the Baytril? I’m just worried that the side effects of it might be harming his good bacteria so that’s why I was contemplating yogurt as well.

I really don’t know a lot about yoghurt but some people have used it as a sort of probiotic. Ive given yoghurt on the occasion but don’t like to give so much dairy as it doesn’t always agree with them - not sure if that is overcautious but fed daily does seem too much. It might be worth looking into a store bought probiotic instead that you feed alternating with the antibiotic. As it is good to supplement alongside an antibiotic. Pro C is sold in pets at home I think, otherwise ratrations also sell one that I have used before.

I wouldn't give it as a probiotic. I read an article that the human probiotics in yoghurt don't work on a hamster! You can buy probiotics for hamsters though. Some people use Pro C, Cypher on here uses the one linked below. Bene bac is good too - that is mainly sold in the US - I managed to get it in the Uk. I liked it because it's just probiotics and no additives and vet recommended. Yes you can give it at the same time, but best to give it at a different time of day (eg mixed in a bit of baby food or porridge if it's a powder). I waited till I was near the end of the course and started the probiotic a couple of days before the end, then used it for two weeks.

Bene bac plus (make sure it's the version for small animals)
