Default Peas

I bought peas in their shells today. Is it ok to give my hamster the whole thing so he can open the shell and get the peas out himself or should i shell them? Advice appreciated. Thank you

I usually give Maestro shelled peas or mangetout if I want him to have a change and eat the outside. If you do give him the whole thing, I would choose the smallest pod so that he doesn't get too much fresh veg in one go.

Henry had fun running around the kitchen counter tonight and got all excited when he found the peapod. He ate three peas in one go but didn't eat the pod which i'm glad about. As Coco said, i wouldn't want him to eat too much greens in one go either.

Yes, and he ate a leaf while there. He tried to get into the washing up bowl too. Funny hamster, he gets bored in his playpen but loved roaming amongst the kitchen utensils.

Great photos Ria. I love it when they sit with a fresh pea in the paws and eat it. 3 peas sounds about right in one go. They know when it's enough I find. Maestro loves the counter top too. Think it is the exploring instinct but if it is always new - no scent - I can tell if he seems a little anxious and needs to be picked up and reassured. Serendipity's Newt likes the shoe rack as I recall!
Good to go Henry!

Yes, i find that. Henry was a bit unsure when i first let him loose in the bike room but now that he can detect his scent he's off like a rocket. I parked him on the futon last night because he was so wriggly and before i had a chance to sit down there was a 'plonk' and he had jumped off!
Not sure what's happening to my grumpy hamster who never wanted out of cage time and used to kick me when i tried to pick him up.
