Default supplementing with freeze dried chicken

how often would i give my hamster a freeze dried chicken cat treat? they were recommended to me by a fellow user, something like purebites for example. should i give him one everyday, every other day, etc?

I mix mine directly into the food mix, one of the 25g tubes, a bag of Harry hamster and a bag of bunny dream Syrian. I ran the numbers at one point and it brings the protein up enough.

I think they do end up getting one or two bits per handful tho so that would probably be fine. I just like having the numbers worked out (on my work computer of course, not here when I want them).

If you’re talking about the freeze-dried purebites I give mine a tiny piece once every three days along with a few mealworms in this schedule: Mealworms, purebites, skip (if that makes sense) to give some variety. I’m not sure about the tubes Shannon is talking about

he currently has a mix of vitakraft vitasmart and oxbow pellets, which is why i want him to have the extra protein because i know the oxbow isnt the greatest. i feed him that every couple of days. if i put a couple pieces in when i feed him would that be good?

I just get my freeze dried chicken in 25g tubes, its the same thing.

Both of those are 15% protein from what I can find so he would need an extra 1.25oz of freeze dried chicken per lb of either food mix to bring it up to 19%.

I recommend switching from oxbow to mazuri or another brand of lab blocks or pellets. Theres been a lot of cases of hamsters suffering malnutrition from oxbow even with appropriate supplements
