Default How long can you store hamster food in freezer?

Hey guys

I just got a new hamster recently and I'm considering bulk buying the hamster food so I won't have to worry too much about buying/ordering food every month or so. I've read that some people freeze their hamster's food and keep it stored in the freezer until they need it, which is the method I'd want to use. But I have a question: What is the longest time I can keep my food in the freezer stored? What is the limit?

Now, I'm aware that nobody in this forum will be able to give me an exact answer but I'm hoping to at least get an approximate time, maybe.

Most food that can be frozen has a variety of life length for the freezer. So some meat maybe a year or more, some processed foods may say 3 to 6 months.

I tend to not keep anything in the freezer for more than 6 to 9 months as the quality can deteriorate over time.

So I would say you would be safe for 3 months, but I personally wouldn't want to leave it any longer than that.

What I tend to do is keep one bag in the freezer and get it out when the current food runs out, and then put a new bag in the freezer. Or if it takes you more than 3 months to go through a single bag (unlikely) just take it out of the freezer after a week and stick a label on it saying "already been frozen for a week"!

It just needs a week in the freezer to kill moth eggs.
