Default What is the best dwarf food

I can no longer get the burguess dwarf hamster food (unless pelleted) for my roborovoski. I wondered if someone could reccommend a good food as I don't want to give him pelleted. Thanks

either harry hamster food(with added mealworms) or you can get a rat food with lots of veriety. i have fed my dwarf hamster harry hamster for half of her life and she seemed to like it.

Sorry I do not recommend Harry hamster for a dwarf. There are not nearly enough seeds in there for a Robo and the pieces are very large. A better alternative would be the bunny dwarf hamster dream expert (zooplus) or the rodipet hybrid mix. Both need supplementing with a bit of extra protein eg a couple mealworms. Both are high quality mixes I preferred the rodipet but it’s a little more expensive.

You need a hamster specific diet as rats and hamsters have different dietary requirements.

Harry hamster has gone way downhill and is mostly pellets and corn now. I second the Rodipet hybrid mixes! If I wasnt making my own mix, theyre what I’d be feeding my hammies

Thankyou all for your replies. I'll look Into rodipet hybrid (is it called this or do i need to mix something in it)out of interest what do you put in your homemade dwarf hamster mix(this may be an option) and are the mealworms the type you get to feed birds(I've often wondered whether I can feed him this)

Rodipet mix: https://www.rodipet.co.uk/pet-foods/...nior-500g.html
The senior and junior mixes are identical and it can be fed to all dwarfs not just hybrids.

In all honesty if you don't have many hams then the rodipet is probably going to work out cheaper than making your own anyway. If you want to buy in bulk then Getzoo and mixerama both do bulk options with expensive postage but will work out cheaper than Rodipet. All are good foods.
Cost aside it is a lot of effort making your own mix and a lot of research needs to be done before hand. I'm pretty much of the opinion making your own isn't going to offer much more benefit than buying one of the ready made ones listed above as they are high quality and have been tested for a long time so there isn't the risk of malnutrition - which is the main danger of homemade mixes.

Wild bird mealworms should be ok.

I don’t feel comfortable sharing the recipe for my homemade mix as I’m still making adjustments and any incorrectly measuring of the ingredients (or even just using a different brand of seed etc that has slightly different nutrient levels) could result in malnutrition. As M&M said, buying a commercial mix is much cheaper when you have just one or two hamsters anyway.

Bird mealworms and shrimp are fine and much cheaper than those marketed towards hamsters.
