Default Salt and mineral blocks

I've seen these salt and mineral blocks for hamsters to lick on. Do hamsters need these? Does anyone know? Henry hasn't got one but I thought I'd better check with you guys first.

Extra minerals and salt are generally going to do more harm than good, a good diet should have that covered so you're best off without.

From everything I have learned and heard, they do not need mineral or salt licks as they should get all the nutrition they need from a good quality food, fresh fruits and veggies.

Thanks guys. My hamster is well fed so no worries there but there's so much stuff in the pet shops. I bought a dried herb filled coconut at Paradise Pet's but had to throw the filling out because it stunk the whole room out and the herbs had quite sharp stems, almost like thorns! Meant for hamsters though. I kept the coconut and put strips of paper in it because my hamster likes to check out new things.

Pet shops idea's of what is suitable for hamsters is often unreliable. You are doing the best thing checking online. I find most of my information from educational pet youtube channels. Erins Animals is brilliant for hamster care and information as she almost exclusively posts hamster care videos (obviously take caution with this though as not all channels are equal in their knowledge)
