Baking sticks
I can only find willow sticks in the shops but want to offer my hamster a fruit stick. Can i use a twig from my pear tree? If yes, do i have to bake it to kill any bugs? For how long at what temp? I'm no baker so need help. Thank you

Re: Baking sticks
As long as it's not been sprayed or anything then yes. A good scrub probably to clean it and then I think I've read to bake it around or just under 100 deg C for an hour. You could probably do it for less time, I generally do half an hour or so but never done garden branches before - and make sure they don't start smoking or anything.

Re: Baking sticks
My garden is organic so no worries there.100C or less makes sense, thanks. I probably would have ended up with ashes. A twig will also look nice in his natural looking set up and my hamster likes anything new. I may tie some monkey nuts and things on the twig.
