Default Mixing own dwarf hamster food

I need help and opinions guys;

I'm running low on my Burgess Dwarf Hamster Mix and seeing as it has been discontinued I'm struggling to find an alternative. I've tried with the nugget style food and neither of my hammy's will touch it.

I'm now thinking about mixing my own food or if anyone has a good alternative they can recommend I'd highly appreciate it.

I do have the ingredients that the dwarf hamster mix contained so I have that to go off of. Is Bird Seed suitable for them at all?

Thank you!

I wouldn't try creating your own mix unless you've done a lot of research into their nutritional needs - bird mixes aren't going to cut it I'm afraid. You're right to try another mix though as the pellets aren't a suitable feed for hamsters who need a good variety.

As far as I know these are some of the best foods available for dwarfs in the UK (assuming you are!), all of them are better than the old Burgess mix with better variety.

Better if you just have one hamster as it's expensive but it's a really nice mix - suitable for all dwarfs (junior and senior versions are identical)

The following have expensive delivery but have bulk options which make them cheaper if you buy more, especially if you have multiple hams (translate page)

This one is also good. I did change my dwarf off it though in favour of the rodipet mix and prefer it.

Oh wow thank you so much for these links! I do have 2 hammy's but I may sadly lose my Mochi in the upcoming months as he turned 2 at the end of March.

I am from the UK yes so I'll take into consideration of bulk buying products, thank you again for this I really appreciate it <3

I typically use Harry Hamster Tiny Friends Farm mix because it has 18% protein within it, mixing it with a teaspoon of Rosewood naturals crisp 'n' crunch celery (once every 2 days) as it contains vitamins and minerals which apparently has a detoxifying effect. I'll also feed my hamster chicken and DRIED mealworms now and then during the day to add in the animal protein (also because of my hamster really liking mealworms crunch).

I have a Syrian Hamster though so I don't know if that will be the same for a Dwarf hamster but yeah.

I make my own mix but it does take a lot of research and maths to get the levels right. I don’t feel comfortable sharing the ingredients yet as I’m still making adjustments based on what my hamsters do and dont like.

All the mixes M&M linked are suitable and very high quality, but since they’re from Germany and more expensive I’d but a few bags and store the excess in the freezer until you need it

Thank you all for the info and suggestions, I'll stay away from mixing my own since I'm unsure of the exact percentages of ingredients needed, I admire those of you who are mixing though and I hope to one day be able to do it myself * v *

I've gone ahead and ordered the food from the Rodipet website, though if it does become too expensive I'll switch to the Zooplus product.

You guys are amazing and this forum is a God send, I hope you and your hamsters are all well <3
