Question How often to feed new Syrian veg/treats?

So far I’ve had my beautiful 8ish week old Syrian hamster for 4 days. I’ve fed him his standard food in the bowl (I’ve only refilled this once - it’s a mix of Harry Hamster and ‘Witte Molen Puur’), carrots on his second night as he was already fed this at his previous home and broccoli on the third night.

I was wondering if it’s okay to give him a treat tonight? He’s a great eater and has settled amazingly - still wary of getting food from my hand, I just place small amounts of veg around his cage. I haven’t given much as I know it’s not great to introduce too much food too fast, or give him lots of veg.

The treat I’d give would be the Harry hamster yippees treats. Is this okay or is it too soon? Also how often should I feed veg and how soon to introduce different vegetables? I’ve bought organic broccoli, carrots and cucumber so I only plan on giving him small amounts of this but unsure on how much and how soon.

Thank you!

Hamsters are Omnivores so I really like to feed them a considerable amount of Vegetables and Animal Protein (mealworms, chicken etc.) during the day. I use Harry Hamster Tiny Friends Farm Mix which is basically nuts, seeds and vegetables. Personally, I would kind of avoid treats with a lot of sugar in them because I get weary about diabetes, even though they are more likely to trend in Dwarf Hamsters it still puts me off. Treats should obviously not be given every single day but now and then is completely fine! )

-Hope this helps

Hey hun. I'm a newbie like you. I got gerald last Wednesday. He has his dry mix all the time. I do refill it everyday I dont want it to get stale. He has another little bowl where i give fresh every night. Sometimes it's not all ate so in a morning I'll take it out and refill it for tea. It's not a lot and its chopped up tiny but he seems to enjoy it.

He goes crazy for cucumber. Even the smell when i bring it.

Not sure I'm any help as I'm new lol.

It'll be safe to be feeding him some veg/treats. If you form your hand into an "O" that will be the amount you should feed veggies - anything in moderation. They don't sell Harry hamster yippees treats where I live though, so I'm not sure what's in them.
Carrots aren't that healthy for hamsters as they contain quite a lot of sugar though, but it's a great occasionally treat for Syrians to wear down their teeth.
Cucumbers also contain quite a lot of water, so a little slice would be enough imo.

Remember to test feed your hamster with a TINY amount and monitor his stool in case of allergy (diarrhea or digestive problems), whenever you give your hamster a new vegetable.

I feed my 3 month old dwarf veggies every 2-3 times a week, while I only feed my 1 year old dwarf veggies every 4-5 times a week, since I'm not sure if she has ever been given veggies before I got her to ensure her stomach gets slowly adjusted.
