Tell me about your hamster's food!
Hey guys! I’m just curious - what are the main things you think about when looking for your hamster’s food?
For example, cost is not an obstacle for me; I can afford to spend $20+ a month to feed my two hamsters primarily organic food and treats. Organic is just something that is important to me, personally. I also prefer foods that don’t use artificial colors or flavors, and like I said before, use as many organic or non-GMO ingredients as possible, and I also prefer use of whole foods instead of synthetic vitamins and minerals. This is just the way I choose to feed my pets.
If there were a nutritionally complete hamster food on the market that:
- used only organic or natural ingredients
- sourced human grade ingredients from the store where you buy your own food
- used ingredients naturally in their diet, such as insects, seeds, and grains
would you consider feeding it partially or full time?

Re: Tell me about your hamster's food!
It is difficult in the US to get good natural hamster foods, I don't know of any that I'd be happy feeding to my own hams to be honest. There are better natural options over here thanks to the better hamster care in Germany, but in your position I'd also be inclined to make my own mix and just feed that - it does take a lot of time to research though. Most commercial mixes will have things like pellets as well as artificial colouring neither of which is ideal so I agree it's best to just have more natural ingredients and insects.
