Chia and/or white sunflower seeds
Hi,
So my prepared mix is just Harry Hamster with some sprinkled Debittered Brewers Yeast on there only once a week with some flax seeds, an unroasted still in shell peanut and either a commercial treat or a piece of safe fruit or veg.
However, I've seen people use Chia seeds as well as white sunflower seeds in their mixes and just wondered what are the nutritional benefits and if anyone else has used these with their hammys.
As a side note I've seen golden flax in the supermarket, is this as safe as brown flax?

Re: Chia and/or white sunflower seeds
Chia seeds are safe but only a very small amount, you can give a few as a treat once in a while or try sprouting them.
White, black or striped sunflower seeds are all fine, they do have a lot of good nutrients but are high in fat & phosphorus so you shouldn't give too many, again find as a treat now & then, better than most commercial treats.
Golden flax is virtually the same as brown it does have marginally less nutritional benefit though so I would stick to brown.

Re: Chia and/or white sunflower seeds
Thanks, Cypher!
I've decided to buy some chia seeds and scatter feed a few as a foraging exercise. I'm also not going to bother with golden as I don't see the point if the more nutritionally beneficial brown flax is right there.
