Default Any recommended mixes?

Hi,

So diet is a very complicated topic and at the moment the best mix I can find is a mix between Mr Johnson Advance Hamster food as the lab block and combine that with Burgess Hamster Food. However, this is a little low on fibre and protein for a younger Syrian which is what I will be getting soon.

So my question is do you have any recommended seed and lab block mixes that have enough protein, fibre and fat for a younger than 6 months old hamster?

Are you in the UK? If so there are a couple of good mixes available, all of which can only really be bought online. The lab blocks aren't necessary, probably unless your food has extremely low protein which shouldn't be the case. Animal protein (mealworms, shrimp, crickets) are a better and more natural. It would probably be easiest to add them in yourself and adjust according to the hamster's age.

Just in case you are in the UK: Bunny hamster mix from zooplus and rodipet Syrian mixes are good. Rodipet has it for both junior and senior hamsters. I've not personally tried the Syrian ones but have heard good things. There are other good mixes too but shipping is more expensive (10 ish) so it depends on your budget.

I definitely wouldn't feed Mr Johnson Advance Hamster food as it's not a good mix, I also agree that lab blocks or pellets aren't really a good way to feed hamsters.
What you can feed does depend on where you are but in the UK most people feed Syrian hamsters Harry Hamster food, the ones mangoandmimi mentioned are good too & a more natural type of mix.
Not all Syrians enjoy mealworms or other insects but if that's the case a little dried or plain cooked chicken or plain tofu can be given for extra protein.

Is it for a Syrian? You can't go wrong with Tiny Friends Harry Hamster - has everything in they need and is sugar free - and enough protein. You can supplement with the odd bit of fresh food - they really like this - a tiny bit of veg daily and the odd half a brazil or walnut nut eg.

Or as mentioned above, the Bunny Dream mix is good for Syrians too but is a bit low in protein - which is why Harry hamster is easier.

For dwarf hamsters Burgess dwarf hamster mix is good or the Bunny Dream mix again.

Harry Hamster has good size pieces for a Syrian. The other mixes have an awful lot of itty bitty bits that get left.

Thank you everyone for the feedback!

I think Im going to go with Harry Hamster as its more accessible to me and seems higher in protein. I will also investigate Bunny Hamster mix but I would have to order that online and Im getting my hammy very soon.

Thanks!
