Re: Important info - Burgess hamster foods
The Rodipet dwarf mixes are quite good, not that I've bought any for a long time but the photos & ingredients haven't changed much, I prefer Mixerama to Rodipet for food but delivery costs are too expensive for most people.
All German foods have more herbage, flowers, veg etc in them as that's the German way of feeding a more natural diet.

I didn't quite get that bit?
The new sand does look horrible, looks more industrial than beach like! I really don't like it but none of my hams have been bothered in the slightest.

Re: Important info - Burgess hamster foods
I actually got the new organic rodipet dwarf mix to try but it's still in the freezer so I haven't been able to test it on the hams yet.
I don't think I will buy the Burgess pellets to be honest. Snappy get the science selective ones because of his mysterious phase he went through last year where he would only eat fresh food and stashed all his hamster mix. He lost a lot of weight that I decided to soak the SS biscuits so that it would hopefully appear to him to be a fresh food and it did the trick. He still gets it now and still eats it despite the change from the hearts, he also gets his normal hamster food which he eats these days also. I'm too scared to stop giving him the ss incase he starts to loose lots of weight again
Yes I also don't like the new sand from tiny friends farm, but as with cypher's hams mine don't seem to care that it's different. I actually got some sand from rodipet the last time and it was much nicer

Just meant I think the food changes are more cost cutting than for any other reason It may or may not have anything to do with European imports and exports.

Re: Important info - Burgess hamster foods
I have absolutely no doubt that whatever they do a higher profit margin is always top of the agenda but then that's just business I guess, can't really see any Brexit connection really though.
Maybe they think they'll get a better share of the market if they can improve on the new & rather unattractive Science selective!

Re: Important info - Burgess hamster foods
It’s a shame that they have decided to stop producing muesli mixes - especially the dwarf hamster as it very popular mix. I can see partly where this idea comes from using pellets to prevent selective eating - but hamsters would naturally forage so need a variety and enrichment from different seed and nuts - but how they think dwarf, Syrian, mice and gerbils diets can be the same/similar is a little confusing as all have different nutritional needs therefore the mix cannot be called complete pellet surely. Although I don’t mind personally they stopping the dwarf hamster mix - as I tried it with Treacle and she didn’t like it and would leave the majority of it as she doesn’t like millet and I also thought the mix was heavily millet based so lacked a good variety.
Serendipity - I have also seen the science selective pellet have changed hopefully it’s just the shape and not the composition. As I have found my Syrians enjoy them - that I even give them as a treat too as well as adding it to the their food mix. Although I have to break them up for Treacle as they are a little too big for her so hopefully the new shape will mean I won’t have to do this.
I noticed the sand changed at the same time as their packaging - although my girls don’t seem to mind the change.

Re: Important info - Burgess hamster foods
One of the reasons given for the change in the science selective pellets was to make them easier for dwarf hams to manage which makes sense, the ingredients seem to be the same although the G/A has changed slightly & it's now an extruded pellet rather than a baked biscuit.

Oh. I will stick to rodiepet and add in bunny dream from zooplus. Need some hemp bedding from them anyway.
Not had a syrian who likes mealworms ... Oh well.

Have also meant to mention for ages - has anyone noticed Tiny Friends (ie supreme) chinchilla bathing sand has changed too?! Coarser and darker - Newt doesn't like it.

Ah, I just meant the natural sugars from the high amount of corn in it. I prefer mixes with less corn/peas for diabetes prone species.
I also found that Tiny Friends Sand has changed, I had a very unimpressed robo! I’ve switched over to using play sand now because its much softer and cost effective!

Re: Important info - Burgess hamster foods
Oh yes see what you mean - it isn't ideal for a hybrid dwarf then. The rodipet and bunny dream ones are good for a dwarf hammy
