Default Baby Food

So my syrian hamster that is 2 and a half has recently stopped eating most of her normal dry mix she's only picking out certain bits so im thinking that its getting too much for her old little teeth. I know that you can give them any baby food as long as it doesn't have onion or garlic but im not sure on the portion sizes or how many times a day kind of at a loss and just looking for some advice. She's sleeps most of the day and doesn't go on her wheel anymore either.

Default Re: Baby Food

Hi coco, hope I can help a little. I had to give my last old boy daily baby food. First don't overlook porridge. A level teaspoon of the oats in the microwave with 2 teaspoons of water done for 20/30 seconds is a soft tasty treat done quickly. If there is water left just transfer the porridge to a small treat bowl near the nest. Baby foods based on veg (but avoid garlic onion and tomato) are best. So cauliflower cheese, mixed veg, chicken casserole, that sort of thing. A teaspoon in a lid or small bowl is good but to get my old boy used to it at first, I let him lick it off a teaspoon that I was holding. Each jar contains far too much and you want to rotate flavours. You can put the remainder into ice cube trays and freeze. Then each 'cube' is a portion. I put each flavour in a freezer bag and rotated their use.
Another thing you can do is crush up the dried food mix a bit to make the bits smaller, you can even moisten it a bit with water if you think that will help. That works best with the selective science biscuits if you are using them already.
Hope this gives you some ideas.
