Default Organic !!! Rodipet Food

Rodipet have a new range of hamster foods that are organic (bio). They still have the existing range as well. I've sent for some. For Syrians the junior and senior mixes seem to have identical ingredients - except for the junior one having squid and no millet and the senior one having millet and no squid. Maybe just different proportions. Protein levels are similar for both.

They no longer put crickets and silk worms etc in for protein and have soya beans in (organic ones though). There's a note further down saying they recommend supplementing with their insects but haven't put them in for hamsters individual tastes varying! (ie they don't eat the crickets and silkworms! Neither of mine have anyway so have always had to supplement the protein).

Ironically I used to get their mixes (and the Bunny Dream one and mix it) because they didn't rely on soya for protein. However it's excellent that there is a 100% organic hamster food available.

The protein is always a bit low in their mixes so would need a bit of supplementing (eg mealworms etc) - I rely on nuts and freeze dried chicken or egg for additional protein. But it's higher than it is in the standard mixes.

There is also an organic mix for dwarf hamsters and long haired hamsters as well

It's not cheap though and postage is on top. I buy two at a time.

Not bad! It’s nice to see more natural foods. The longer I own rodents, the more grossed out I feel when I walk into pet stores and see rainbow colored foods. Just imagine the sheer amount of dyes and preservatives in those

I’ll definitely have to do a deeper analysis on this one. Given that my German is quite poor, I’ll have to translate it to get a better idea of nutritional info. Thank you for sharing

I copied and pasted the page for each of the mixes into Google translate It translates everything well except platahirse or something (which apparently is millet seed )

I'm still iffy about mixes relying on soya for so much. It's not just that most soya is GM (which this isn't) but the suggestions that too much soya can affect various things - although it seems not to be a proven thing. Maybe just don't like the idea of all protein from one source. At least the rodipet one has plenty of other ingredients and the soya beans are not GM. Although I think soya is in everything these days - even our loaves of bread apparently!

I don't have an issue with giving my ham soya if it's GM free, I do think it has a bit of an undeserved reputation tbh & it's natural for them to have plant based protein so I don't see the harm although it is good to have a little animal protein too.

Yes I think you're right Some mixes are just nearly all soya which I don't like as not much variety - at least some have mealworms in as well.

I know. It is expensive but been wishing someone would make an organic hamster mix for 3 years. Some mixes are just full of horrible junk! Harry Hamster and Burgess are ok but you know it’s healthy if it’s organic - providing the critters will eat it ha ha. Squid!

The junior dwarf mix is sold out so I got the senior one as Mugget is borderline - a year old now just.
