What to feed my Syrian
So my female Syrian has been on burgess gerbil/ hamster mix, I just find it very oaty... and if there’s better food I’m all up for it. I’m located in Ireland so I need to be easy too get. Any suggestions would be great! I know Higgins sunburst and mazurri lab blocks but it costs me way too much too ship. I also have the option of versele lags hamster nature I can add protein would that be good?

Re: What to feed my Syrian
A popular Syrian hamster food on the forum and also with my hamsters have been Harry Hamster - it one of the best foods available in the UK. I also like to mix two different mixes together (normally burgess Syrian mix) anyway to add additional variety into the mix - as I find the Harry hamster to have more processed pellets opposed to other mixes.
Versele laga isn't a good choice of food as the ingredients are very vague so I wouldn't recommend using this mix.

Re: What to feed my Syrian
Versele Laga Hamster Nature is actually pretty decent food! U just need to supplement with something else that contains more protein. Harry/Hazel hamster’s food formula has actually changed and has only 16% protein in it, downgrading it to okayish food that also needs supplementing. Check the ingredient list and nutritional value beforehand to really understand whether the food is good or not because some info online or even on forums can be misleading or outdated, not saying other people are wrong but research has to be done

SnoWolf where are you getting your info from? I bought a brand new bag of Harry Hamster less than a week ago, just checked and it says 18% protein.
Maybe Hazel Hamster has lower protein but Harry Hamster deffo doesn't. Please fact check before you post things and accuse other people of being wrong.

no no I’m not accusing anyone I wasn’t trying to target people at all just that the Harry/Hazel hamster brand is pretty infamous for the formula change but the Hazel Hamster food mix where I live only has 16% protein so I was trying to say that maybe where they live the formula would be different. I didn’t want the person to assume that the brand was ok everywhere and take a bag that might have low protein without supplementing it. I’m sry if I came of rude

Re: What to feed my Syrian
My country has very limited options on food and brands like Burgess Dwarf Hamster Harvest that are only available in UK or in the US, so shipping over products would possibly cost 2 times or 3 times the normal price point of the bag of food. Finding cages and wheels that are suitable are also limiting factors, but because I think many users here are from UK and US they do not have to deal with this major problems which makes me want to move sometimes haha

Re: What to feed my Syrian
Just to clarify - Hazel Hamster and Harry Hamster are identical formulas with 18% protein - the difference in the labelling in the US means they're only allowed to declare 16% - complicated regulations. I wrote to the manufacturers on this a while back and had it confirmed.
Willowknows - do Zooplus deliver to you? They sell Bunny Dream hamster food which is quite good but a bit low on protein. Rodipet also do their own mixes and post abroad. If you can get Harry Hamster it's fine (and sugar free unlike a lot of mixes).
