Default Science Selective and Harry Hamster

Hello. I've a query about Science Selective. We gave this for a previous hamster when he was elderly (we mushed it down as he was struggling to eat). My question is can you feed Science Selective alongside/with Harry Hamster. We are hoping to adopt a hamster soon and don't want to waste food. Science Selective has daily guidelines on it - just wondered if ok to feed both types at same time, or whether better to only give one as main hamster food and give the other as a treat?
Ps we wouldn't mush Science Selective (only if elderly ham). Look to me good for wearing teeth down

It would be fine to use them together, if two foods both have a good GA then you can mix them up in any proportions you like really although I would give mostly HH with just a little SS to keep up the variety.

Thanks cypher for your help as always I'm sorry but I didn't know what GA is? I'd like to give both foods together, Harry Hamster has more variety than Science Selective which is pellets. I suppose it's more interesting for the hamster to eat also when food is different shapes and sizes.

Sorry! GA just refers to the analysis, the amount of protein, fat & fibre in a mix or pellets, so if both are in the right range which these are then you don't have to worry about how much of each you use.
Pellets alone are quite boring for them & don't allow for natural behaviour like foraging & opening seeds but a few mixed in with the HH would be fine.

If you are looking to get a more stimulating feeding time for your hamster I would consider scatter feeding. It's the natural way of feeding making it so the ham has to scavenge around for their food

Thanks cypher! The GA makes more sense now. Will do a mixture but mainly HH.
I agree about scatter feeding (Simon and Syril) - keeps hamsters active to look for food like what they would do in their natural habitat.

Agree with Cypher. I would put out Harry Hamster and add a couple of Science selective biscuits to it. If you did half and half they may not eat the Harry Hamster. Both have all the nutrients and protein required but Harry Hamster gives the variety and is easier for scatter feeding. I tend to put food in the bowl and also scatter feed every few days. Some of it depends on the hamster. I mainly scatter feed for our Robo as he takes the food then but am never sure if he takes it from our bowl, whereas our Syrian does.

Harry Hamster on it's own would provide everything needed though and you could use Science selective as treats or something to hide the odd thing in the cage for them to find.

Other options for mixing with Science Selective are the Bunny Dream mix from Zooplus and the Rodipet Syrian mix. I prefer those two because they aren't soya based (but means ordering from Germany), but they are lower in protein so mixing those with science selective would increase the protein.
