water bottle behavior
so my syrian has fully mapped out his cage and food areas but hasn't seemed to drink any water. iv'e read that this may be normal but when i bring the bottle to him, he looks like he's really thirsty, i do this twice a day to make sure
he's not dehydrated. iv'e bought a new bottle that has a thinner nosle but still doesn't use it. is this also normal ?

Re: water bottle behavior
Hello,
Sometimes they get out in the daytime for a drink or drink when you are asleep. A good way is to make a mark on the bottle level and see if it goes down a bit.
If you are really concerned you could offer a piece of cucumber or apple as a water source but make sure it isn't stored as can go mouldy

Re: water bottle behavior
Hello,
This could be associated to cage rage as someone else has already pointed out in another thread started by you. Unfortunately, when in a small cage, their behavior changes quite dramatically and show severe signs of stress and anxiety. Since you recently purchased the cage, try getting a refund for it from the store? Most pet stores should allow a refund if the product isn't suitable.

Is this your cage?

I haven't read in your other threads anything that indicates cage rage x

Re: water bottle behavior
Here's the thread.
Hamster not leaving tubes!
I'd been reading all the threads that pranjyboy had started. If you combine all of them together, it kind of adds up to signs of cage rage, I guess.

Re: water bottle behavior
It just seems the hammy is new and staying in house and tubes..that does not equate to cage rage which would be more suggested if the hamster was biting bars furiously and running around erratically. The hammy also doesn't seem to be displaying any aggressive behaviour or being terratorial

Re: water bottle behavior
Is bar chewing always present cage rage? I thought I read elsewhere something different. Can't seem to recollect where.
Well. In that case I was mistaken. Perhaps it's just the stress from moving into a new home. Good to know.
But like Amethyst_ice you should consider the refund and get the Alaska. Hope you get it sorted out soon.

Re: water bottle behavior
Hamsters don't drink a lot of water anyways so sometimes it difficult to notice if they have been drinking. If you think he is struggling to drink from his bottle you can try a water bowl (a shallow dish works best) - my Pumpkin prefers to drink from a bowl.

I don't think the hammy sounds stressed. It's normal for a new hammy to hang out in tubes as it feels like a safe space.
Cage rage doesn't have to include bar biting but the hamster will appear "manic" and angry..very hyped up and behaviour will be aggressive. Nothing here

Re: water bottle behavior
if you are sure he might not know how to use the water bottle, maybe just show him the bottle spout and squeeze it a little so some water comes out. If he is thirsty he will drink the droplet and soon he will learn where his water source is
