Default Diet help

Hey

I'm quite interested in hamsters diets and recently changed my hamster to a new food which is Versele Laga hamster nature. Apparently it's a good food and has 17% protein, 8.5% fat and 7% fibre it's a bit high in fat and low in fibre but the proteins adequate. What are your thoughts on VLHN? Do any of u have your hamster on this food? If u do what have u noticed in terms of your hamsters health etc. I was also wondering if there are any wet cat foods I could feed my hamster in tiny amounts for extra protein coz his a growing 4 month old boy, is there a specific brand that's suitable for hamsters and safe to feed? For example Pamper, Purina, etc?

I'm not a fan of that food tbh, some of the ingredients in the list aren't specific, I don't think it's enough to say cereals or seeds without specifying what they are, it also contains quite a lot of fruit some of which I would say is unsuitable for hamsters due to the acidic nature or the enzymes present in them, hamsters have a very different digestive system to us & don't have an acidic stomach like we do so these things aren't really appropriate for them.
It is important to consider ingredients as much as the GA.
The only wet cat food I've used it Appllaws, just the chicken ones from this range which are mostly meat with very little else added.
If you want to give extra protein this dried chicken is good & the hams love it.

Thanks for the reply

From reading the bags ingredients the cereals look like pieces of plain white rice crispy looking pieces and the fruit is pineapple, papaya and banana.

I'm definitely gonna go look at the cat section for some Applaws hopefully my country has that brand

It's a personal choice obviously but I wouldn't want to be guessing what the ingredients & from what you say I imagine the cereals are processed so you can't tell what they are. I did look at the fruits in the ingredients.
Banana is fine as a treat now & then but pineapple & papaya really aren't suitable at all.
