Default about hamster diets

the internet has me confused about hamster diets. google search just says to feed a pellet diet with seeds as a treat along with veggies and fruit. and you tube says to feed both seed and pellet diet along with veggies and fruit. Right now I am feeding my hamsters a mix of Oxbow pellets and a seed mix.I have two male Syrians Cosmo and Gizmo not living together of course. And one Female Robo named Cookie. I read that Robos are the smallest hamster and that they are not prone to diabetes.I have had Syrians in the past but this is my first Robo hamster. Any help would be appreciated.

Generally a diet should meet the reccomended nutrition, at the moment 17-19% protein, 6-15% fibre and 4-7% fat is reccomended as the GA(gaurenteed analysis). A diet with good variety such as pellets and seeds as well as other add ins of the food such as dried banana, papaya, peas etc. Veggies and fruits 3 times a week too.

There is a lot of conflicting & confusing information out there. Some people favour a pellet diet in the belief that it will prevent picky eating but that can be avoided by feeding properly, that is not refilling the bowl or giving more food until what's there has been eaten.
Pellets offer no enrichment for them & most aren't made for hamsters specifically (except science selective in the UK_) so the GA is often incorrect.
A mix containing seeds, some biscuit type bits (for syrians) maybe & other natural foods is best, in Canada I think Hazel Hamster may be about the best but not entirely sure what's available there now.
Robos do ideally need a different diet to syrians containing a lot more small seeds but I'm not sure if you have any good dwarf specific mixes where you are, you could give Hazel Hamster & break some of the larger pieces up, not ideal but it would be ok.

I cant get hazel hamster but I can get the care fresh complete I heard that was a good mix. Oh and I got some meal worms for the hamsters. I know Gizmo likes them but Cosmo does not and I have not tried them with Cookie yet. I know a lot of people use the dried ones but they do not have much nutrition in them. So I got the live ones and just kill the meal worms before I give them to the hamsters. The oxbow is only 15 % so that is why I give meal worms.

Carefresh complete isn't too bad but it does have some slightly unsuitable ingredients so Hazel hamster might be a better option.
Oxbow is low in protein & too high in fibre so I wouldn't feed it unless you have no other options.
Mealworms are fine in moderation, they will give a protein boost if needed but are high in fat so not too many! It doesn't really matter if you us freshly killed or dried ones.

I found this seed mix that sounds good its called vita smart complete nutrition hamster food.

Guaranteed Analysis: Crude Protein (min) 16.0%, Crude Fat (min) 3.0%, Crude Fibre (max) 10.0%, Moisture (max) 12.0%

There is this other pellet food here it's called Living world Extrusion Hamster pellets

Guaranteed Analysis: Crude Protein (min) 15.0%, Crude Fat (min) 3.5%, Crude Fibre (max) 4.5%, Moisture (max) 12.0%

this might be a better option but the pellets are large.

The proteins not bad but if u can, there are better options that can give a better GA.

Do u perhaps have Versele Laga hamster nature (Not the mini one) in your pet stores or able to order them online? It's a pellet and seed mix and the pellets are quite large because it's designed for a Syrian hamster but other hamsters can have them too because it's good for there teeth. The GA is pretty good too,

Crude protein 17%, Crude fat 8.5%, Crude fibre 7%, Crude ash 4%, Calcium 0,45%, Phosphorus 0,45%, Lysine 0,79%, Methionine 0,33%, , Vitamin A 12.000IU/kg, Vitamin D3 1.500IU/kg, Vitamin E 40mg/kg, Copper-cupric(II)sulfat 9 mg/kg

Cereals, Vegetables, Derivatives of vegetable origin, Seeds, Fruit, Vegetable protein extracts, Nuts, Minerals, Yeast, Fructo-oligosaccharides, Herbs, Calendula, Calendula extract.

I'm sort of doing it different but I'm a hamster newb. Since I knew it would be hard to determine what he is eating and what he is hording, and how this all impacted nutrition, I chose a high protein block food as the staple and occasionally add a small amount of a high variety seed mix about every other day. I just make sure the extras are small enough where the protein blocks remain the staple. I have a few of the high protein block foods so it adds a tinch of variety. I hand feed as treats mealworms, sunflower & veggies.

So I'm guessing he is eating about 75-80% high protein block food with the rest seed mix & treats. I figure while he is still growing, I want him on the high protein. I might adjust once he is full size, but not while he is growing.

I wouldn't go with the Versele Laga mix, they are so vague about the ingredients it could be almost anything in there, a specific ingredient list is as important as the GA to ensure you're giving your ham a quality food.
