Thank you Cypher. This is what they post

Those of you saying chocolate is toxic - PLEASE take a moment to reference the following scientific sources for the information about how chocolate is not toxic. As in peer-reviewed, scientific studies. Google searches are not scientific evidence.

Now for the science:

Chocolate is NOT toxic for hamsters. Here is my proof:
"Hamsters and mice were much more resistant to theobromine than were rats. A decrease in growth and in thymic weights occurred only at the highest dose levels of theobromine and testicular and thymic changes were completely absent in hamsters. "
Short-term effects of graded levels of theobromine in laboratory rodents - ScienceDirect "...more resistant than rats, while hamsters were almost completely
resistant to the effects of high doses of theobromine (Tarka et al., 1979)."
Effects of short-term and long-term theobromine administration to male dogs - ScienceDirect

This one studies the issue in hamsters- Comparative theobromine metabolism in five mammalian species. | Drug Metabolism & Disposition

And this one says-
"Theobromine shows moderate acute toxicity and the dog is more susceptible than rodents."

If they've done some research that shows it may be relatively safe & they want to take that risk then really that's a personal choice & up to them, not something I would want to do but you can't make choices for other people.

There is another issue with chocolate and hamsters and that is the fact that hamsters have pouches which some other rodents do not which must be factored in to the safety issues. Pouching chocolate results in it melting in the pouch and causing a gloopy mass which is difficult to remove and can cause problems with depouching and impaction in the pouches resulting in inflammation and possible infection.
The chocolate drops made for hamsters are not actually chocolate and have a high melt point and are designed not to cause issues if pouched.
Chocolate is not suitable for hamsters at all.
