Best food for Syrian hammies in Canada
Heyo Happy Hamster Friends!
I'm in a bit of a conflict. There are a large variety of hammy mixes, hammy nutrition blocks to use in addition to the mix, and a huge difference, I've found anyway, in regards to the proper ratios of protein, fiber, vitamins and fat to keep my soon-to-be new baby happy and healthy. My last hammy lived a long, happy and healthy life on simply food blocks, but I've come to learn there are many more, and better, options for them. The question is, what are they?
I know there are also suggestions of mealworms and crickets in addition to the info on the sites I found as treats.
I also know there are conflicting theories about some of the food and treats and would like to hear from both sides.
So, in summation:
The best mix with the best amounts of proteins, fiber, vitamins and fats, the best meal block, and the best fresh supplements by way of those lists. Please note that I'll be shopping at either PetSmart Canada or Total Pet in Canada.
Sorry for the massive post!!! XD

Are you getting a Syrian hamster or one of the dwarf species? They have slightly different food requirements.

The best food for Syrians is Harry Hamster Muesli can't make any suggestions for meal blocks as I never use them. For supplements: veg, mealworms (not all Syrians like them though), cooked chicken, boiled egg, freeze dried chicken such as thrive.

Well I did say Syrian in the original post and title.
We don't get Harry Hamster here. That's why I mentioned PetSmart Canada so you could maybe advise me what would be good from there as that's where I'd be mote than likely getting my food

I believe Petsmart in Canada started carrying Higgins at least online,so a Higgins Sunburst combination diet is entirely possible.I personally would suggest Higgins Sunburst and Carefresh(two thirds Carefresh, one third Higgins, must have added freeze dried chicken and flax seed to make the protein levels just slightly higher to fall within the suitable range).

Unfortunately our Petsmart doesn't carry Higgins.
Do you have a Global Pet Foods near you or Pet Valu? Both should carry Versele Laga Hamster Nature.

Yes it's not at our petsmarts sadly. I'm not sure if there are Petlands in BC. There is one in Ontario but it's about two hours from me.
