I'd definitely give it mixed with his regular food.

I wouldn't as I worry this could throw the balance of nutrients etc in his diet off balance, but it's your choice. It's not going to kill him! As a Syrian, the best mix for him is Harry Hamster Muesli.

Re: Accidentally bought dwarf hamster mix to my Syrian.
Ooh good okay! I'll mix small amounts. I bought new food because he is really bad at eating the pellets that are in the mix. I guess though i should be a bit tougher and leave it untill he eats it. Or is this bad? I dont want to encourage his picky eating but i don't want him to go hungry eather..
Thanks AP i'll see if i have that in my country

Re: Accidentally bought dwarf hamster mix to my Syrian.
The way to solve picky eating is to be tough as you say and not put any more food in the bowl until all the old stuff has been taken. It may take a while, but hamsters will not let themselves starve and will get the hang of the fact that they need to take it all. Plus, you should only give about a tablespoon of food at a time as overfeeding encourages selective eating. So, you're on the right tracks having said all that, if he's only leaving one specific thing that's probably not too bad.
