Question Bingo does not store his food???

Hello, so I have a boy Syrian Bingo, I had him just under a week. I clean up his poop every morning - just the visible ones. Whist I was doing it, I felt nosy so I poke around in the shavings to see what type of food he stored, I couldn't find any of it. Is that strange?

Also I know that being a young Syrian he needs high proteins, what type of food that has high protein? I gave him egg, he does not like it... meal worm is my last resort.

What treat is the best? Do they also needs to be high protein?

Thank you in advance

You could try a bit of plain cooked chicken or turkey, mealworms aren't usually a big hit with Syrians though there are some that love them so you could be lucky Tofu is also worth a try for the protein. What food mix are you feeding him?

I don't have any experience with Syrians but it may be that as he is still settling in he hasn't decided on a safe place for his stash yet, though I'm sure someone may be able to help with that more

When I first got my hamster (dwarf). She didn't pouch food or take food to store/hoard. Your hamster will probably start hoarding soon.

Chicken and cheese are good.

I don't know what type of food your feed your ham but Mazuri Rat & Mouse lab blocks are high in protein and the hammys like them. Pet-Co sells it or Amazon, maybe ebay? I feed those lab blocks along with Higgins Sunburst although I'm starting to not be as big of fan of Sunburst as so many of my hamsters don't like a lot pieces of the food.

Some hamsters just don't store very much food. My Russian only stores a small amount of food in his bed and keeps the rest in his bowl, and I've had Syrians that don't store food at all. Also be careful with removing all of his poop since their poop contains nutrients that they need to eat to be healthy (their body doesn't absorb all the nutrients when they first eat the food so they eat it again in poop form to get the remaining nutrients).

Is this the case with other types of hamsters too?

As far as I know, the poop thing goes for all species of hamster, and most rodents if that's what you mean
