It never hurts to start using probiotics as long as their quality is high Even without food transitions, they're just wonderful things to have in the regular diet of any species(whether it be humans, dogs and cats,or even hamsters)for overall digestive maintenance and keeping things in check(especially during times with raised stress).

Personally, And I have switched my hammies food a few times. I would use the food they were already on, then put a pinch of the new one in and mix it in the bowl, then gradually just worked the old mix in with the new in a tub. Then when that was empty, I just gave them the new food. Syrian's you have to be more careful with, due to them being prone to wet tail. I thought that dwarfs couldn't get wet tail, but they can still suffer upset tummy. So I did the same with my robos food. The only reason I switched the food, was because they really didn't like the old food. My Syrian is on a mix of Harry Hamster (Hazel Hamster/Tiny friends Farm...they keep changing the name) And Burgess, with a handful of sunflower seeds, handful of mealworm per 1 litre storage tub. I recently phased out Wagg, as they didn't like that, and I found out it had grape in it.
