Question Peanut Butter

I have never fed any of my hamsters peanut butter, because I know that most have lots of added sugar, salt and additives. However, I have just noticed that the peanut butter we always buy (Meridian peanut butter smooth 100% nuts) actually contains only 100% crushed peanuts. No other ingredients! Well, I guess the clue is in the name so I have been a bit slow on the uptake...

Would it be ok to give Quigley a tiny little bit to lick?

We currently have the smooth version.

The Meridian one looks very good.I wouldn't give peanut butter with added sugar or salt to any hamster, regardless of species.Very few peanut butters would meet these requirements, but if you can find a peanut butter specifically for your hamster instead of sharing just to be safe(no maltodextrin, dextrose, sorbitol, etc and no artificial ingredients as well as no added salt and no unsafe or unspecified preservatives)then that could be an acceptable rare occasion treat or used for baking hamster treats.

Amity neither would I. But, the brand we have contains no ingredients apart from crushed peanuts. So, it will not contain any of the things you mention. Also, it specifically says on the label also that it does not contain added sugar, pal oil or salt.

It seems really good.Sanitary reasons just make me very wary of sharing the peanut butter between humans and hamsters, but if you feel comfortable with it then go ahead

Peanut butter made from just peanuts like the meridian one are safe from an ingredient point of view but always remember how sticky peanut butter is, you definitely don't want any pouched!
I've added a little of that one to porridge & needless to say they loved it

Thanks I did wonder about the pouching thing, but I thought if he only had a very little bit it wouldn’t be enough to pouch. Quigley has so far been quite good about only pouching hard things (unlike Mushu, who used to pouch porridge!).

You could add some seeds/nuts and make treats. They would still get the peanut butter flavour, but be a bit less sticky.

They still could be pouched, but the fact they are less sticky would be good.
