Should I feed through the bars of my hamster's cage?
I have an 8 week old syrain hamster who is absolutely terrified. When my hand comes in to take her water bottle and food she jumps or runs away. I was thinking that when it comes to taming her that I could start by feeding her treats through the bars of her cage just for her to get used to my presence. Is this a good idea?

Re: Should I feed through the bars of my hamster's cage?
It's fine to do that at the beginning, you may have to be patient & stay there for a while without moving your hand but after a while the smell of the treat & her natural curiosity should overcome her fear, if she doesn't respond at first you can just drop a treat through the bars then walk away, she should then begin to make the connection between your hand & nice things to eat
