Question How much fresh food?

I just have a quick question - how much fresh food do you give your hamsters, and how often? I think I've been giving the wrong amount to my Syrian (too much, but she has shown zero signs of any discomfort or anything like that). If I give daily, how much should I give? A tablespoon? A teaspoon? More? Less? I apologise for the 'stupid' question, but I just want to keep my little one as healthy as I can

I generally give a quarter sized amount of vegetables daily so the nutrition is better balanced on a daily basis. However, you could give a larger amount every few days if you'd prefer that. You'll want to start slowly, only offering it once or twice a week, and then moving it up to the desired amount. Remember too though, that the amount you should offer varies by the weight of your hamster as well. I wouldn't offer the same amount of veggies to a 200 gram Syrian as I would a 125 gram one. Offer as much as you think is best as often as works for you best wishes

Btw, no such thing as a stupid question. All questions are valuable and deserve an answer!

I've never had a ham over eat veg, they just seem to take what they want & leave the rest still eating their normal mix ok so I don't worry about amounts particularly once they've gradually become accustomed to it.
One concern with giving too much fresh food is that they may hoard it & you really don't want bits of veg hidden away going mouldy so keep an eye out for that.
Variety is the main thing, so something different for at least three days before giving the same again if possible.

Once your hamster is used to veg, you can feed a finger nail sized piece daily. I know many me,beers here do with no problems. I personally offer about double that every 2 or 3 days because I like to vary his treats. Mushu usually doesn't take all of it, though. To prevent him hoarding fresh food, I give it to him out if the cage. That way, he eats most of it straight away and can't drag it all immediately to his store. I always check his nest the next day and remove any left over veg that I find, but there's rarely any left.
